Before 1960, Avon was a village of fewer than 5,000 residents. When it became a city in 1961, it struggled with issues that included residents fighting about installation of sanitary sewers and the construction of Interstate 90.

The project to add turn lanes and traffic lights to the intersection of Lear and Krebs roads near the railroad crossing won’t begin until spring 2015.

The city of Avon is expanding its presence in the medical field with the approval of a special use permit for Select Medical Ventures to construct a rehabilitation hospital on Health Campus Boulevard.
