Lake Erie Nature and Science Center officials were able to look close to their own backyard to find a new development director.
Center officials tapped longtime North Ridgeville resident Ann Miller to lead fundraising efforts for the nonprofit facility. She replaces Renee Burslem, who left the post earlier this year.
Executive Director Catherine Timko cited Miller’s extensive experience.
“Ann’s education, experience and passion for our educational mission made her a standout choice among a number of highly qualified candidates for the post,” Timko said. “I know our staff and supporters will welcome and appreciate all that Ann brings to Lake Erie Nature and Science Center.”
Miller has worked in Northeast Ohio nonprofits for 17 years, with her most recent position as director of Foundation, Corporate and Government Relations at Notre Dame College in South Euclid.
She holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Organizations from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, as well as a B.A. in English from Miami University at Oxford. Miller is also a 2001 graduate of Leadership Lorain County.
In addition to her business credentials, Miller said being from the area, she has had a long personal interest in the center.
“My husband and I have taken our children (two sons) to the center for many years,” she said. “I’m excited to have a positive impact on a great organization that’s right in my backyard. My family and I have enjoyed coming to Lake Erie Nature
and Science Center for years, so I know firsthand what makes this place such a wonderful resource for the region.”
With her background in non-profit organizations, Miller conveyed her pleasure in having found a job at the facility.
“In talking with the staff and other people around the center, I can see that it’s a good fit for me,” she said. “I appreciate all the interest people have in the center. I’m still watching and learning while I work.”
Prior to working at Notre Dame College, Miller served in development positions at Lorain County Community College Foundation, Applewood Centers Inc. and the Cleveland Education Fund. She also is an active volunteer for her sons’ school activities. She and her husband, Doug, participate in community initiatives as well.
“I’m looking forward to becoming very active and involved in a variety of areas at the center,” she said.
