Spook-tacular Halloween decorating contest underway in Sheffield Lake

SHEFFIELD LAKE – Residents and businesses will have an opportunity to exhibit their creative flair during the third annual Halloween decorating contest. The contest is open to all homeowners and businesses in Sheffield Lake.

The event is family focused, said Debbie Suarez, a member of Sheffield Lake Civic Pride Committee. Prizes will be awarded in four categories: whimsy-child friendly, scariest, most original and a judge’s choice award.

Those interested in having their home or business judged for a prize must register by 5 p.m. Sun. Oct. 22, Registration is easy as there is no official form, Suarez said. Those who wish to participate write their name, address and phone number on a slip of paper, she said. Forms can be turned in at the Driftwood Cafe, 4116 Lake Road in the Shoreway Shopping Center; or Dock’s Tavern, 4540 Lake Rd. They also may be submitted online at the Civic Pride Committee’s email: slcpc@yahoo.com. There is a $25 registration fee for businesses. Home registration is free.

Teams of judges will visit all contestant homes and businesses on between 7-9 p.m. Thursday or Friday, Oct. 26-27. Saturday, Oct. 28 is a possible inclement weather date. Suarez said judging will be based on overall display quality, theme, creativity and originality.

Participants are asked to ensure their displays can be seen from the street, comply with city ordinances and reflect the kid/family-friendly goals of the program.

Winners will be announced on Sheffield Lake Civic Pride Facebook page on Sunday, Oct. 29th. For more information, contact Civic Pride at slcpc@yahoo.com.
