53rd annual Band-A-Rama this weekend!

By NICOLE HENNESSY

AVON LAKE/AVON – The Avon Lake High School Marching Shoremen will return this weekend for the 53rd annual Band-A-Rama, which showcases high school marching bands from across the county.

Eleven marching bands from area high schools will have their chance to show off some hard work. Joining Avon and Avon Lake will be Wellington, Arcadia, Van Buren, Cloverleaf, St. Edward, St. John Jesuit, Willoughby South, Amherst Steele and North Royalton.

The Ohio Music Education Association Adjudicated Marching Band event is sponsored by Rettig Music.  It is also supported by the Ohio Music Association.

“It is hoped that the adjudicated festival situation would be one in which viable comments and suggestions are offered in a positive, constructive manner to each group and a fair evaluation of the group’s performance is reflected within the Ohio Five Rating Plan,” a press release stated.

“Ohio bands receiving a final rating of “I” (Superior) in any of the 63 OMEA-sanctioned local marching band adjudicated events held this fall are eligible to participate in State Marching Band Finals.”

Avon Lake City Schools is known for its focus on music programs, with support of it’s parent-lead group The Avon Lake Band Aids, which received Ohio’s “Outstanding Music Support Group” award from OMEA in 2016 and supports more than 800 students involved with local and traveling music programs.

Band-A-Rama will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 30 at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium, 175 Avon Belden Rd.

Tickets will be available at the door for $8.
