Sheffield Village event supports arts, student athletics


SHEFFIELD VILLAGE – Sheffield Village is gearing up for a day of activities supporting the arts and student athletics programs in the village.

Activities kick off on Saturday, Aug. 26, in front of Brookside High School, 1812 Harris Road, Sheffield Village, where a 5k run and 1-mile walk begin at 10 a.m. Just before the start of the race at 9:40 a.m., Mayor John Hunter will lead a salute to local veterans. The Brookside High School Marching Band will play for runners and walkers just before the starting gun. The race and walk wend through the streets of the village and end at Lorain County Metro Parks French Creek Nature Center, 4530 Colorado Ave. in the Village. An awards ceremony will be held there recognizing top runners and walkers across various age groups.

Interested runners or walkers may register prior to the race with Hermes at: Cost is $20 for the run or the walk. Those who pre-register receive a t-shirt and goody bag. Race day registration opens at 9 a.m. Same day registration fee is $25. All race proceeds benefit Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Schools’ Brookside athletics programs. Art after Dark begins at 6:30 p.m. at Homewood Suites, 4930 Transportation Dr., Sheffield Village. The event features a wine-tasting, hors d’oeuvres, silent auction and live entertainment. The Grady Miller group plays and sings Americana and Blues beginning at 6:30 p.m.

At 8:15 p.m., attendees will hear a performance by singer and Lorain native Monica Olejko accompanied on piano by another Lorain native, Anthony Trifiletti.
