Services set for Avon Lake’s Piper Samuels

Piper Samuels

Six-year old Piper Samuels, the Avon Lake girl who inspired hundreds of residents to tie pink ribbons to mail boxes and light posts across the city in support of her fight to “crush cancer,” passed away early Sunday after a year-long battle against Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive pediatric cancer.

Swastikas painted on Lakewood driveway

Vandalism on Belle Avenue in Lakewood overnight.

LAKEWOOD – Vandals painted two large, bright blue swastikas overnight on a Belle Avenue driveway. By 2 p.m neighborhood kids had used chalk to draw hearts, suns and messages of love.

A neighbor who asked not to be identified originally noticed the swasticas while jogging before work Wednesday. He quickly alerted police.
